PEACHTREE CITY, GA — With the 250th anniversary of the United States—the Semiquincentennial—approaching this July, Peachtree City officials have unveiled plans for an Independence Day celebration designed to match the historic weight of the nation's "America250" birthday.
While cities across the country are planning large-scale festivities, Peachtree City is leaning into its unique identity to honor the occasion. This year’s theme, "250 Years of Liberty: The Path to the Future," will see the city’s signature 100-mile multi-use path system transformed into a red, white, and blue corridor.
"This isn't just another Fourth of July; it’s a once-in-a-generation moment for our community," said Mayor Kim Learnard during Tuesday’s City Council meeting. "We are expecting record-breaking participation as we celebrate 250 years of the American experiment right here on our paths."
The centerpiece of the day remains the annual parade along Peachtree Parkway. For 2026, the city has increased the entry cap to accommodate over 200 floats and decorated golf carts.
Organizers are encouraging participants to draw inspiration from 1776, with categories including:
The Founders’ Award: For the best historical reenactment on wheels.
The Century Trophy: For carts depicting a specific era of American progress.
The Spirit of 76: For the most patriotic display of lights and music.
