SENOIA, GA — The sights, sounds, and flavors of a traditional German Christmas are officially heading south. City officials confirmed this week that the renowned Atlanta Christkindl Market has selected historic downtown Senoia as an additional featured location for the 2026 holiday season.
The decision marks a significant expansion for the German-American Cultural Foundation’s signature event, which recently celebrated record-breaking attendance during its 2025 run in Lawrenceville. By adding Senoia to its 2026 calendar, the market looks to marry its authentic European atmosphere with the cinematic, small-town charm that has made Coweta County a premier Georgia destination.
Mayor Scott Tigchelaar expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, noting that the city’s Downtown Development Authority (DDA) worked tirelessly to secure the event.
"I am thrilled to confirm that Senoia will host the Atlanta Christkindl Market in 2026," Tigchelaar said. "After successful runs in Buckhead and Lawrenceville, organizers recognized Senoia’s unique appeal—our historic sense of place and vibrant holiday spirit—as the perfect setting to bring even more magic to our residents and visitors."
The move is expected to provide a major boost to the local economy, drawing tourists from across the Southeast to Senoia’s walkable downtown district.
The 2026 market in Senoia will mirror the authentic "Christkindlesmarkt" traditions found in cities like Nuremberg. Visitors can look forward to:
Authentic Wooden Stalls: Imported from Germany, these booths will house artisans selling handcrafted ornaments, nutcrackers, and unique holiday gifts.
Culinary Delights: The air will be filled with the scent of sizzling bratwurst, fresh pretzels, and Gebrannte Mandeln (roasted almonds).
Seasonal Sips: Traditional Glühwein (mulled wine) and hot cocoa will be served in commemorative mugs.
Local Synergy: The market is designed to complement Senoia’s existing traditions, including the "Light Up Senoia" parade and the annual tour of homes.
The expansion comes on the heels of the market’s massive success in Gwinnett County. In 2025, the Lawrenceville location expanded to over 90 vendors and drew nearly 180,000 visitors. While the market is confirmed to return to Lawrenceville in 2026, the Senoia addition represents a strategic move to serve the growing population south of Atlanta.
"Senoia is ready to welcome the world this holiday season," Tigchelaar added. "Together, we’ll make the 2026 Christmas season one to remember."
